|Taos Ski Valley: For Year-Round Fun!
Lest you think Taos Ski Valley is only about skiing and snowboarding, the Kandahar will share with you a bit of information about year-round events. For instance, in December, tubing on Strawberry Hill begins. The first date for this fun sport is December 9th. Thereafter tubing will be Wednesday through Saturday throughout the season. And Strawberry Hill just happens to be right next door to the Kandahar! Tubing is fun for all ages and the tubing hill will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $8, cash only. Tube rentals are included and the hill is well lighted.
On December 10th beginning at 3 p.m., the Martini Tree Bar hosts Pint Night, with friends from New Belgium/"Fat Tire" for a tasting of their great brews.
December 16th and 17th you can ride the newest skis and snowboards on the market at no cost! This very unusual opportunity will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the base of ski lift 1, and there's no cost!
To celebrate trying out the latest in skis and snowboards, take a walk on over to the 16th Annual Brew Master's Festival, Saturday, December 17th, from 4:40 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event will be held in Tenderfoot Katie's and the Martini Tree, located right at the base of Chair 1. There is no better way to spend Christmas Eve than to watch as skiers make their way down the mountain in the dark with flares as their only means of light! Come be a part of the awesome Torchlight Parade on December 24th!
Then just a week later, check out the New Year's Eve Torchlight Parade. Ring in the New Year in style with our torchlight parade and fireworks display, starting at 6 p.m. at the base of lift #1. Countdown to the New Year takes place in the Martini Tree Bar immediately following the fireworks. Live entertainment follows, with acts to be announced. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show starts at 9 p.m. The celebration in the Martini Tree Bar will be a 21 and over event. More information to come.
All of the above events are just a sampling of December 2011 events in Taos Ski Valley. And you thought you'd just sit quietly by the fire . . . well, you can at the Kandahar! Remember, the Kandahar is the place to make all your winter dreams come true. We'd love to have you as our guest, so call us or reserve your vacation condo lodging online.
And the fun doesn't end in December! Begin 2012 with more tubing! This sport is fun as all outdoors and the gear is included in the $8 cash fee. January 28, 2012 is the much anticipated date for the Winter Wine Festival. The Grand Tasting at the Taos Ski Valley Resort Center (at the foot of Lift #1) features more than 75 different wines from 30 participating wineries and tastes from ten of Taos Ski Valley's finest restaurants. A silent auction of rare wines benefits the Taos Community Foundation. This event begins at 4 p.m. and goes until 6:30 p.m. The entry fee is $75. This is a 21 and over event.
Saturday and Sunday, February 11th and 12th brings the Subaru Master the Mountain event. Also that Saturday at the Martini Tree Bar you can sample some of the best Belgian beers from our friends at Fat Tire.
March is no exception when it comes to fun up here at Taos Ski Valley. March 24th at 4:30 p.m., bring your friends and sample beers from across the Southwest and food from some of Taos' best restaurants. It's the Spring Beer Festival! Sad to think about, the season ends Sunday, April 8. But the season doesn't go out quietly! Come watch or enter in the Bud Light Pond Skimming Championships!
